Never Download TikTok: How the App Can Harm Your Mental Health and Self-Esteem

Friend sent a Tiktok to me. Normally it opens in Safari as I never downloaded the app. This time, it opened in what appeared to be the Tiktok app. Definitely not in safari, and when I entered multitasking I saw it was completely separate from the Messages app. I pulled down my search bar and found no trace of Tiktok. I entered the app library and when I scrolled to "T", there was no Tiktok either. However, when I search for it in the app library, it inexplicably appears. Unlike the rest of the apps listed in the library which actually belong on my phone, when I dragged Tiktok onto my homepage it simply vanishes, leaving me unable to delete it. I cannot find any way to delete an app directly from the app library. Any help is appreciated, mad that Tiktok found its way onto my phone and madder than **** there isn't a way for me to get rid of it. Can't even understand how an app that my software claims isn't on my phone can show up in multitasking.

This resolved the issue, thanks for your help. For those who don't want a tiktok "app clip" installed on their phone without their knowledge, I recommend not opening any tiktok links sent to your phone.

The bill makes it illegal to download TikTok in the state, with penalties of up to $10,000 a day for any entity, such as Apple and Google's app stores or TikTok itself, that makes the popular video-streaming app available.

Brooke Oberwetter, a TikTok spokesperson, said the bill's backers have admitted that there is "no feasible plan" for putting the TikTok ban in place, since blocking downloads of apps in any one individual state would be almost impossible to enforce. Oberwetter said the bill represents the censorship of Montanans' voices.

Yet supporters highlight a 2017 Chinese intelligence law that requires private companies to hand over data about customers to the government if Beijing ever requests such information. This comes despite TikTok's pushback that it would never comply with such a request.

In January 2017, the Army Chief Information Officer/G-6 published a policy memorandum entitled Mobile Application Authorization Process for Vetting and Analyzing Mobile Applications. This memo notified users of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), including common mobile devices like iPhones and Androids, that only apps available through the Department of Defense Mobility Unclassified Capability (DMUC) Mobile Application Store (MAS) or the TRADOC Applications Gateway (TAG) are approved for downloading onto GFE.

While some commercial apps have been approved for use on government furnished mobile devices and made available through the above sites, the TikTok app has never been authorized for use on GFE. Further, no efforts are underway to approve TikTok for use. All instances of TikTok on GFE must be removed immediately.

When a validation report is issued, the application may be added to the compliant or approved products list and be made available for download via the DMUC MAS and TAG. All mobile apps available on these sites have been vetted and approved by the proper authorities, the Mobility Program Management Office (PMO) of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA,) and the Program Manager (PM) of Army Mobility at Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

The report, from the cybersecurity company Feroot, said the app still has your data even if you've never used TikTok. And it's collecting and transferring that data whether or not the app is deleted, according to the report.

Trending, entertaining, and creative content is what drew many of you to download TikTok. Now that you've created an account and reviewed our community guidelines, it's time to dive into the diverse videos that your fellow community is creating.

In February 2019, TikTok reached its first billion downloads. The app took just under eight months to gain half a billion more. These figures are nothing short of impressive, considering that the app was launched only as recently as 2016.

The surge in downloads is most likely a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Under lockdown, consumers were spending increasingly more time on their mobile phones and seeking out entertainment and new ways to stay connected, which in turn, drove TikTok downloads.

TikTok is the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store in Q2 2022, with over 60 million downloads in a single quarter on iPhone and iPad devices (Sensor Tower, 2022). The app strongly beats out CapCut, Google Maps, YouTube, and Instagram, which round out the top five.

The latest statistics show that TikTok was particularly popular in South America towards the end of Q3 2020. The app was downloaded from the Google Play store 3.08 million times in Brazil in the month of September alone (Statista, 2020).

Tapping Installing Apps will bring you to a new menu where you can allow or stop downloads of any app from the App Store. Simply select Don't Allow to prevent yourself from downloading and reinstalling TikTok.

Even if you downloaded TikTok with good intentions, it's hard not to fall victim to the addictive algorithm. Soon, you're receiving hundreds of reactions to your most recent video and watching video after video.

For instance, the Douyin app is only accessible to those who are physically based in Mainland China and it can only be downloaded from the Chinese App Stores. Similarly, Chinese users can not access TikTok, the international version of Douyin. Tiktok can be downloaded from Google Play Store or overseas Apple Store.

TikTok, which is currently owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, has had a monster 2020 so far, setting a record for the most downloads in a single quarter. Children aged four to 14 in the United States, United Kingdom and Spain now spend an average of 80 minutes per day using the app, putting it on par with YouTube. An April report from SensorTower, a mobile app market intelligence firm, found that TikTok has surpassed two billion downloads globally this year.

TikTok, a Chinese short-video application, has taken the world by storm. In just a few years, it witnessed a meteoric rise that earned it more than two billion downloads worldwide. That was after the parent company, ByteDance, merged Musical.ly and Douyin to create the popular social platform.

All this success led ByteDance to purchase the app in 2017 for $1 billion. The Chinese Internet company had launched the short-video app Douyin a year earlier in China. It became an instant hit, gathering over 100 million downloads in just one year. As a result, the parent company decided to expand it to other Asian markets and changed its name to TikTok.

TikTok went on to break the two-billion-downloads barrier, becoming available in 154 countries in 75 languages. SensorTower research shows a significant spike in global downloads during the first quarter of 2020. The market intelligence provider linked that surge to the COVID-19 pandemic, as users heavily relied on their smartphones to connect with others.

Some sites like Mayo Clinic's public-facing pages and RAINN, a leading anti-sexual-violence organization, have removed pixels, citing their presence was an oversight. Other businesses CR questioned either declined to comment or never responded.

To reach an even larger audience, be sure to download your TikTok videos, order closed captions for them (following the steps in the previous section), and post them to your YouTube channel. Post the URL for your YouTube channel with a note encouraging your TikTok followers and fans to view fully-accessible video content there.

Whenever you use social media, or any web-based tech, you have to wonder: How safe is my data, and what are the risks? TikTok has had something of a bad reputation when it comes to security. But does that mean it's actually risky?

"There's never been evidence of malicious intent from TikTok," said Aidan Fitzpatrick, CEO of Reincubate, "but it has a history of security infractions." For example, TikTok has been accused of collecting biometric data from minors without their consent, and ByteDance agreed to pay $92 million to settle a class action lawsuit over data privacy claims in the US.

Privatizing your account means that you have the ability to approve (or reject) follow requests, as well as who can see your videos, bio, and following and follower lists. Plus, random users won't be able to duet, stitch, or download your TikToks.

Fake accounts on TikTok sometimes promote apps that are available to download. The problem is that these apps are also in fact fake. Some accounts will claim that specific paid-for apps can be downloaded free from certain third-party app stores. However, in an attempt to steal your information, these apps will actually install malware or adware on your device.

Like other platforms, TikTok will never contact you asking for your account details, password, one time passcode, or any other verification methods. Due to the scale of the problem, it is vital that you remember to keep an eye out for scammers who are probably going to try to trick you into sharing your personal information, usually by email or through an in-app message.

Collectively we downloaded 788 million apps during the year and spent AUD$3.24 billion (USD$2.31 billion) both on and in them, a +21% increase year-on-year. We also spent +25% more on subscriptions and downloads across video games, on-demand video, books and music, as we searched for ways to fill the time during lockdown.

One of the major requirements of an organization that provide corporate mobile devices to users is figuring out how to block a specific app or multiple apps from being downloaded or installed from the Apple App Store, Android Play Store or the Windows Business Store. IT admins have different reasons to block certain apps from being installed or downloaded and wonder how they can effectively block apps from being downloaded by the user. Some of the common reasons to block an app from being downloaded are to prevent the installation of malicious apps for data security, limit access to apps that hamper productivity and to avoid accessing inappropriate content on corporate devices.
